Project Background - 2005 to 2009
CoverDrive was our first foray into the casual online games market. It was designed to be fun to play, playable in a web browser and 3D.
CoverDrive has proved popular amongst cricket fans and is presently ad-supported. It includes integrated chat, a choice of 11 teams, five batting styles and score/batting average tracking.
Technology
Webcogs developed a software-based 3D engine to render the geometry and textures. Given the constraints of rendering entirely in software, the output was acceptable and allowed us to support older machines at the time that might only be running Java 1.1.
Also developed were server-side technologies for handling player chat, player profiles and high scores.
